Hello folks, I'm in London for a few days, and I'm all food-planned up for the weekend, but I'm looking for some lunch places for Monday and Tuesday. I'm thinking about St. John's - but how is it for lunch? Any other lunch places? Would love something Persian possibly...

Thanks.

St J's is good for lunch though the atmosphere is different during the week as it is primarily suits whereas in the evening this gets leavened with the neighbourhood crowd, me included

I would also consider Club Gascon around the corner at the south side of smithfield which serves superb gascon food ( huge number of Foie dishes on the menu ) but in small plates so you can try a lot

Smiths of Smithfield in the same area is better at lunch than it is at dinner. The third floor restaurant is well known for its "sourced" beef and while at night it can be expensive, they have a good set lunch

In town, many of the high end restaurants have excellent set lunch menu's which can be real bargains.

I would suggest one of the following

Capital - Eric Chavot ( catch him while you can )
Locanda Locatelli - See thread below. I went recently and it will take over from Zafferano as the best Italian in town
Embassy - Superb high end cooking

Hope this helps

It sure ain't Persian but how about venturing into the City to a traditional "fish ordinary" Sweetings in Queen Victoria St,is only open at lunchtimes and combines an old fashioned Victorian ambience with some terrific staightforward fish cookery and English puds. You can't book, though, and you may not want to eat again that day, although you can 'go light' there if you want to eat in the evening.Great atmosphere and NOT a tourist trap.
