A memory is a terrible thing to waste... some years ago I had delicious fondue at a tiny restaurant in Montmartre. Their claim to fame was that they served wine in baby bottles! Gimmicky, maybe.. but I do fondly remember those long communal tables, an anything goes attitude and I can still smell that bubbling oil and cheese.
My problem? I can't remember the name or exact location to save my life. Has anyone been there recently? Or at least know the name?
Merci mille fois,
Sara

It was Refuge des Fondues on rue Trois Freres, metro Abbesses. Let me know if they still have the graffitti from Reid Hall/Penn, class of '88...or if it has been painted over? Er, on second thought, I don't think I want to know if it is still there...

It's a wicked place to go. We found it in the pouring rain whilst my wife was heavily pregnant and had a great evening. The baby bottles were put to a different use only a few weeks later and we named our daughter 'amelie'' becase we were staying at the Hotel Des Arts near where the film was set.

Le Refuge des Fondus
(tel 01 42 55 22 65, 17 rue des Trois Frères, 18e, metro Abbesses or Anvers). This establishment has been a Montmartre favourite since 1966. You can get an aperitif, red wine (or beer or soft drink) in a baby bottle and a good quantity of either fondue savoyarde (melted cheese) or fondue bourguignonne (meat fondue; minimum two people). It opens for dinner 7pm to 2am daily (last sitting at midnight or 12.30am).
