We're visiting next week for four days staying in the Mayfair/Picadilly area. First time to London. Any suggestions for breakfast and what should we expect to pay? How about lunch?

  1. For breakfast go to Simpson's in the Strand and order the works(I think they call it 10 deadly sins). It'll set you back nigh on 20 quid but you sure won't want to eat again that day.(On no account eat either lunch or dinner at Simpson's)

I agree. there is no better place for a breakfast than Simpson's and no worse place for dinner or lunch.

Balan's ... several locations including High St Ken and Soho do great breakfasts probably most sensible in town these days
Valerie Marylebone High St and Brompton Road best Danish

London still badly underserved for breakfast

Simon,I was going to recommend the Fox and Anchor in Charterhouse St.,Smithfield for breakfast with a pint(or not if you can't face that sort of thing). This used to be a 'must do' London food experience, but is the pub still going?

      3. if you have a little time and don't mind travelling across the river, have one of the best workingman's breakfasts at The Borough Cafe in Southwark. located on Park Street across from Neal's Yard Dairy just outside the Borough Market, it's a tiny spot with communal tables. bubble and squeak, bacon and/or sausage, egg and beans and a great cuppa (I always have tea but I hear the coffee is terrific too), will set you back about £5 or £6 per person. and you won't want to eat for the rest of the day.
