We had dinner at both on a trip through Italy about a year ago. I found Gambero Rosso disappointing (small portions of generally unexciting food), although in fairness, my wife liked it far better. Da Caino, on the other hand, was superb, including a magnificent wine list. Both places present difficult questions about where to stay, as neither in in particularly touristed areas.

Thank you for your response. My wife and I will be in Italy the second week of December and just found out that Gambero Rosso is closed that week. Da Caino on the other hand is open and has three rooms available for an overnight. We will stay the one night and I will personally do everything in my power to fall asleep absolutely sated!
I may even need several aspirin from what I've heard about his wine cellar.
