Reliable chippie open late in the West End?
- Jonny T. Dale Aug 28, 2001 06:25 AM
Is there a reliable chippie open late (til midnight) in the Bloomsbury/Covent Garden/Leicester/Soho area?
Not expecting Fryers Delight level, but is there anything decent? I'll be arriving from NYC at nine and would look forward to something other than a stale bap.
Any help will be greatly appreciated
Why is it always the simple requests that prove to be the hardest to satisfy?
I was going to recommend the Rock and Sole Plaice in Endell Street, CG but I believe it closes quite early; 10pm?
And there is no way you're going to make it from LHR to CG in under an hour...
Do you really need to do fish & chips?!?
re: Rana Mainee
I'd like to do fish and chips, but I guess I can survive without them. I actually had decent fish and chips in Soho at midnight a few months ago on Greek or Garrick street in a completely awful looking joint.
I appreciate your help. I thought there might be some gem I was missing. There's always Doner.
re: Jonny T. Dale
I think you must mean Greek Street. And as a pescetarian, I can't help you with your choice of Doner purveyors...
My only recommendation would be to grab a bite to eat, get yourself down to Bar Italia, get an espresso and watch Soho at its best...a perfect start to a London trip.
Actually, they do a reasonable ciabatta/mozzarella/tomato sandwich...
A friend just reminded me of the Fryer's Delight in Theobald's Road which is actually in Holborn. Not sure if this is outside your area but we remember it being open late (though maybe not midnight...) and it's directly opposite the Police Station...
Best of luck!
A safe bet for a quick, reliable bite is Eds Easy Diner in Moor Street, at the Cambridge Circus end of Old Compton Street. But I guess if youre arriving from NYC, a burger and chips may not be high on your list of must eats (good though they are). I think it's open until 1am, or thereabouts.
