A number of friends are imploring me to go to the Slanted Door on an upcoming trip yet a search here reveals some lukewarm posts about 3 years ago.
What's the current word?
Thanks

It's often mentioned in passing, but you are right that there haven't been any major threads on it in recent memory. It's just THERE, the 300-pound gorilla of high-end Asian (not fusion) restaurants.

I think the buzz is that it's still good, if pricey. It's a pleasant place with good and informative service. Although it's probably not the best value in Vietnamese food around, it won't break the bank the way a Gary Danko or a French Laundry would.

It will not even come close to breaking the bank. Mentioning it in the same breath as Gary Danko and the French Laundry when talking price is misleading. To be certain, Slanted D is not cheap, but it's not a fortune, either.

To be clear, Gary Danko is not as expensive as French Laundry, particularly if one does not select a large number of courses at GD.

Also, I couldn't agree that GD would "break the bank". Leaving aside wine price (which can be addressed at GD by BYO, for lower corkage than at FL), I believe that GD is one of the best "value for price" relationships in the Bay Area gastronomic landscape (despite Fifth Floor and FL having more lyrical cuisine).

I think Slanted Door is held in fairly high regard on the board. Here are three less-than-three-year-old threads to read...

Definitely go, the food is still outstanding. Yes it is a little more than you would spend at a neighborhood joint but you are on vacation, no?

Now, I will be skiing Big Sky in January. How about some tips from out your way?
