Does anyone know anything more about what is happening with the wonderful Il Latini trattoria in Florence, one of my truly favorite restaurants. According to the 2001 Frommers guide to Italy, the Latini brothers have split up and the cooks and waitstaff have left with one of the brothers for a new restaurant somewhere in the vicinity of San Gimignano. Other guide books don't mention this, but do say reservations recommended. This is very suspicious, as historically Il Latini has not accepted reservations.
Having just returned from a trip with guide who is friends with the Latini family, I ate at both Latini restaurants. The brothers did split, though I do not know if all the cooks/waitstaff sided with one or the other. The new restaurant, which includes a small hotel, is located on the outskirts of San Gimignano.
Both restaurants were equally enjoyable. The Florence location has continued to expand and has remained crowded with people lined up for the 7:30 pm opening. They did not appear to take reservations, but I don't know for sure. Each restaurant is a terrific choice if you're in the area.
Hello, my name is Chiara Latini, and I am the daughter of the brother who left for San Gimignano.
We are located near San Gimignano, our menu has changed a bit from the Florence menu.
If you ever come to Florence, we are only a 45minute train ride from Florence. This is our website:
