Wine on Maui

Spending two weeks in the Kapalua area. Could you suggest a place, with reasonable prices, where we could purchase wine for our stay? Mostly, wine prices have been so expensive we have shipped our own. This time we don't want the hassle. Any suggestions appreciated.

  1. The first two locations that come to mind are Mr Wine, downtown Lahiana, with a good selection and fair prices for Hawai'i, and the Costco, near the airport in Wailuku (membership required). When last there, the selections at Costco were less than most major mainland Costco stores, but adequate, considering the location.

For the best selection - Mr Wine.

      Hunt,
Thanks for the suggestions. Sounds just like what we needed. We are so tired of toting and shipping wine to Hawaii.

I don't blame you. When we last visited Lanai, we stopped in at Mr Wine and got a mixed case for the week. Though both Manile and Koele were great, I was glad to have that wine - also, we were just catching the ferry in Lahinia.

I used to bring 2 styro-shippers to San Francisco, whenever we had a meeting and I had time to go to Napa/Sonoma/Amador/Santa Cruz, but gave it up some years back. Now, if I plan on buying some, I know that my Landcruiser can hold 19 styro-shippers, if my wife flies back! Lugging wine around can be a hassle.

Let me know if Mr Wine is still around, and also the selection at Costco, as we'll probably be doing Maui next year.

        Good trip,
        Hunt

You sound like my kind of a wine person. The last time we went to Kauai I had my wine broker send a couple of cases prior to our arrival. We were renting a house, and he shipped to the owner. That worked well, but this time the shipping destination is a little iffy. I feel much better buying there and not worrying.

I'll be sure to visit Mr. Wine if it is still there. Costco here is one of our haunts. When we get back I'll update you on both places.

Remember, life is too short to drink bad wine!

There are two winery on Maui Ulupalakua Ranch and Tedeschi both near the east coast side of Maui.

        3. I realize you didn't ask about restaraunts but if you haven't tried Vino yet it is worth a go and is in Kapalua. Best list on the island.
