Help with Seafood Store on Maui

I will be on Maui the first week of May renting a condo in Wailea with family and several kids. In previous years we were able to try several of the great restaurants-Mamas, Halimalle Gen. Store, David Pauls, Spago, Roys etc. This year with the kids, I will probably be doing a lot of cooking myself for everyone at the condo. My question is where to find great seafood (tuna, salmon, shrimp) meats (all natural beef and pork) and any specialty items on Maui?
I have been to the supermarket next to Roys in Kihei, and was not sure on the quality of their fish.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I was in Maui last week (4/19 - 4/26) and bought my shrimp at the Star Market. I bought the wild shrimp and steamed them. So fresh, tender and tasted wonderful, went back 3 times. We went to the "Fish Market" between Ka'anapali and Kahuna in a strip mall. The fish was very good and very expensive. We thought the fish at the Star Market looked just as good and significantly cheaper. Didn't think the seafood counter at Safeway looked very appetizing. The Sashimi at Star Mkt was good, not my favorite, but my husband loved it and he's fussy about his tuna. Good luck and enjoy your trip.

In the same plaza as Honokawai Okayuza & Deli, there is a fish market where you can find fresh fish. Though, it's quite a drive for you just to get fresh fish. Another suggestion is Costco. We usually stop by Costco and just pickup some groceries.

Also look for beef that's raised in Maui cattle ranch.

We will be staying in Kapalua. Where exactly is this plaza?
        Thanks,

3600D Lower Honoapiilani Rd Honokowai. Past the Star grocery store.

The Honokowai Okayuza & Deli is worth checking out. The owner use to work at Mama's restaurant and their food is really well priced not to mentioned good. It's not really a restaurant, though it does have a few table. It's rather a place where you can get something togo and head to the beach. Highly recommend the Ono with white wine caper sauce.

You won't miss the restaurant, you will see a line of people coming out of the restaurant. The seafood place is a few stores down from the deli.

          Good luck.

Sounds wonderful and perfect for us for take-out. Is it in Paia, Lahaina, Kehei...?

The store is in Honokowai, on the West Side of Maui.

Curious if anyone knows of a Fish market/Seafood store in the South or Central part of Maui? Honokowai is a bit of a drive from Wailea.

Has anyone been to Oki's Seafood in Kahului? I've passed it a number of times but have never been inside. It's close to the Queen Kaahumanu shopping center. I am pretty sure that it is a seafood market. Another thought is that there must be some asian market in Wailuku that has a decent fish counter. We have never stayed at a condo while in Maui so have never had to explore the various grocery stores.

Hit Costco when you get off the plane and then Eskimo Candy Seafood Market and Cafe when you are in Kihei. We always pop in there when we go to the south side. They have a great grilled fish sandwich.

Try Suda's Store by the farmer's market in Kihei. They sell fresh local caught fish.

Is Suda's still around? I thought they closed shop.

Not sure if it's a daily thing or only on Fridays. Local produce and baked goods. It's inside the mall.

                        BostonBean,

I 2nd the recommend for Star Market in Kihei for produce, meats and cheeses. Their daily lunch offerings are pretty neat and contain a lot of fresh, local foods, hot and cold.

Try Eskimo Candy on Wai Wai Street (across from Goodyear, by the school, Kihei) for fresh poki.

Otherwise, i suggest you go into Kahului and try one of the local fish stores for fresh catch. I get my fish from Valley Isle Seafood on Hukiliki Street (off Dairy Road).

Thanks. I've figured out where it is. We'll definitely make a stop there.

This fish market is awesome. Make sure you get the butterfish and throw it on the BBQ. They also carry several different marinades (miso-based, soy-based, herbal) all very good. The secret is to go after 11:00 when the catch comes in. Also, make sure you go on the same day the farmer's market is open down the street. Great for fresh fruits and veggies to go with your fish!
