"DON'T MISS" Restaurants -- please list!
I am new to this "ElseWhere" board. We will be in Hawaii on vacation for 6 days Aug. 16-21, staying in Maui at the Westin. We will have a car and are willing to travel for good food.
What are your "MUST TRY" restaurant recommendations for breakfast, lunch and dinner? We love great food!
Thanks in advance!

Mama's, David Paul's, Maalaea Waterfront would be on my list.
You'll see these and more discussed over-and-over on this board.

I second Mamas and add Roy Yamaguchis in Kihei at the Safeway Plaza. No view but excellent food. We were just there the first week of February loved both Mamas and Roys. Last time we went to Mamas at night this time went at lunch. I would recommend lunch for the great view.

We never miss Mama's when on Maui. Trip Advisor.com can give you so many ideas so give them a try. We love to spend a romantic dinner (at sunset) at The Plantation House Restaurant in Kapalua. Also, have a good meal and lots of fun at The Hula Grill near your hotel. Also, read this web-site for ideas. If you google Maui dining, you will hit web-sites that list in order of favorites. Have fun!

Hello, we had one of the best dinners during our Maui visit at Haliimale General Store (close to the center of the island) and I concur with the rec's for Mama's (most expensive dinner we had, but worth it and memorable) and Roy's. There are also places for no frills, good food lunches/breakfast scattered around, and overall we never ate badly. you're very welcome, enjoy

Thanks for your friendly recs. Mama's is already on our list, and I have added your Haliimale General Store.
Your final comments about "good restaurants scattered everywhere" is pretty much what I am hearing from those who have been there. I guess because it is such a tourist town, the unexceptional restaurants can't make it for too long. So, perhaps all I need to ask is if a restaurant has been there for more than a few years...probably a good test, huh?!!
Thanks, again!

Longevity isn't really a good test here. We can name a lot of restaurants that have survived over a year serving food you wouldn't write home about. Mama's and Hali'imaile General Store are two don't miss restaurants. We always pick those two for our special occasions. For every day dining out, we go to Cafe Des Amis, Cafe Mambo, Eskimo Candy, Kihei Cafe, Makawao Steak House, Milagros, Pacific'o, Paia Fish Market, Penne Pasta, Sarento's, and the Waterfront. Aloha
