I used to order fruit baskets as gifts from Manhattan Fruitier, and they were good. Nice presentation, good quality components, good service, etc.

No more. Past 3 times in a row have been disastrous on every level.

Any suggestions for a replacement? And please don't suggest Harry & David - I don't like their stuff.

Thanks.

I've used The Orchard (based on Coney Island Ave.) with excellent results. Just as expensive as Manhattan Fruitier, though.

Next time you go to DiFara's, you owe yourself a visit to the Orchard -- maybe the best produce store in NY -- it's a five-minute walk from Dom's. I first heard about the place from the Alpha-Hound. The prices are high but I love the exotic variety and their generosity in offering tastes of virtually anything.

I hope Susan or someone else will comment on what their baskets are like. I have no doubts that the fruit itself would be superior to M.F., but are the baskets as attractive?

Sad to hear M.F. might have gone downhill. I haven't bought anything from them in many years, but I used to love the place.

We have *received* as gifts fruit baskets from The Orchard (both fresh and dried). They are very fresh, quite good, very pretty and have a large variety of fruits in them. The baskets themselves are nice as well.

I once rec'd a beautiful basket from an outfit called Surroundings... I think there are several of them.

It was outstanding, a mix of beautiful flowers, chocolates, a bottle of wine, crackers, cheese, nuts etc.
