I don't know Coluchio's, but I'll check this out. I've been to some wonderful destinations (Court Street Pastry, Egidio,Madonia Bros,Addeo), but Alba is the best that I've had .
Man, if it's in Manhattan......where is it? There is nothing worth mentioning in Little Italy, and the Village is the same. Hey moron's.....you have to keep the pastry separate from the filler untill purchase, or have incredible turnover to serve cannolis pre-filled. I love these things when in NYC. What's the deal.....I go to Lower Manhattan and no good cannoli? I mean, Cafe Roma, Rocco, Bleecker St,Napoli,La Bella Ferrara, Biondo,Ferrara,etc.....they all suck. I guess I should mention Veniero and De Robertis as contenders for good quality, but this does not speak well for The City.
If you have any suggestions, please let me know. I love New York and am just a guy in search of a good cannoli.

I've always attested to Rocco's on Bleeker's Cannolis.

And they DO keep the shell and the filling seperate until ordered.

Insatiable.

All these places are okay -- but if you want the REAL New York style, OLD FASHIONED cannoli, then you must go to Arthur Avenue in the Bronx. Edigio's, Gino's and Arturos are all great places to start.

The difference: Rocco's, Ferrara, etc..they all use the same cannoli cream -- its outsourced from a company in Long Island. Many bakeries "tweak" their cannoli cream a little whipping in some fresh whipped cream (or fake whip deelite)masking the flavor even more with tutti fruitti pieces, chocolate chips and on top of that crushed pistachio.

On Arthur Ave., they make their cannoli cream fresh, from scratch, with just the right proportion of fresh riccota to powdered sugar with the right hints of cinnamon and orange and/ or lemon zest. You can tell a lot of these guys are professional because many of them even fry their own cannoli shells --

I remember when I was a little girl -- walking to Arthur Avenue and sometimes the cannoli shells would still be warm when they filled them. Sensational --

It doesn't get any better than Arthur Avenue!

Well said. I love Arthur Avenue....Madonia Bros get's my vote for this area. Although, I stand by Alba as best in all of the boroughs. With your criteria, I'm sure you will agree. Good Luck.

The best cannolis IMHO are at Fortuanto Brothers, 289 Manhattan Ave (at Devoe Street) Brooklyn, NY 11211-3723 Phone: (718) 387-2281. I have tried the cannoli at Alba and at Delillo and I find Fortuanto's much better. I think the secret is that their filling must be whipped because it is incredibly light and not overly sweet. I believe that the secret to good cannoli is to fill them freshly and also not to top them with powdered sugar as the sugar makes the shell soggy after a while.

Enjoy!
