If Tacita d'Oro at about 100th Street is still going, it would be worth trying. This is a dying post-castro genre, unfortunately. I well remember enjoying "sopa china especial" and other hybrid dishes in the 70s at these places. But in general, its the spanish dishes you go for - perhaps the chinese contributed their quick-frying skills and some lightness.

In the past TdO had good chiccharones de pollo, pork, squid n rice and sancocho. I cant attest for them today.
There is a chino latino place on 14th (N side) between 6th and 7th but we havent been for at least 20 yrs.

Good luck in your search and please post back what you find.

Tacita de Oro reopened a block south of its original location about ten years ago and is going strong, along with the addition of Peruvian pollo a la brasa, like its neighbor Flor de Mayo one block north.

In midtown there's a place on 60th or 61st between Lexington and Park, right near Bloomnigdale's (of all places) that is pretty good, too.

There are still a couple of places on 8th avenue around 16th street (La Chinita and Sam Chinita),
and there's a darn good place on 116th near Lex,too.

Personally, I go for the chicarron de pollo, fried rice, and a cup of gravy from the ropa vieja. The anti-Pritikin lunch.

someone told me of a place called Asia Caribe on 9th Ave between 48th and 49th that serves PR/Chinese food...although he says it's closer to home-cooked Cuban more than anything else. i haven't been yet, but as soon as i do go (maybe this week?), i'll let ya know how it is.

Asia Caribe has great tripe soup (Sopa de mondungo (sp?)). It is made with chorizo and pigs foot and has a great smoky flavor and slippery but tender texture (not chewy). A Guatamalan friend showed me this place years ago. He said his mother walked over a mile to go there because it was the best tripe soup in the city. Other things I have had there have been fine (rice and beans, maduros, squid), but the tripe soup is great.

How intrepid are you? Years ago, I worked in the Bronx (a different location from the one I most recently moved from) near the Hub, at 149th and 3rd Avenue. I remember a tasty Cuban Chinese restaurant on 149th Street West of Courtlandt Avenue, on the north side of the street. I haven't been there since 1996, so I can't vouch for it (or even remember the name) but if you're game to look, it could be worth it. I remember liking it a lot.
