Hi there,

I'm writing an article on pickles and would love to know if anyone knows of any fabulous pickles that are made or served in NYC.

Thanks!!

Is there a more New York institution than Gus's pickles? I have great memories of going to Gus's, picking out bright green super crunchy half-sour pickles, regular sour pickles, and sometimes - depending on my dad's mood - pickled peppers, too.

Brooklyn Brine Co. makes the best damned pickles I've ever eaten.

Pickles and Olives on the UES. I live in the village and travel up there to get them. I like the half sour while DH prefers the sour dill.

Try the red flannel and the honey mustard pickle chips at hormans 6th ave and carmine st.
          Not traditional but damn good.

The best in my opinion are BaTampte half sour. They might be the ones served at Guss and/or the Pickle Guys.

There's a guy selling great pickles from a stand at the west 4th street subway stop.

Guss Pickles on Essex Street on the Lower East Side. It's probably one of the only -- if not the only -- place in Manhattan which makes them on the premises, both half sour ("new pickle") and sour.

Guss's pickles. You can also get good middle eastern pickles upstairs at the counter at Kalustyan's- pickled eggplant, cucumber, etc. Also a good selection on Atlantic Ave. in Brooklyn. By the way, if anyone knows where to get good japanese pickles, sans MSG, please reply!!
