I've loved the food at El Ranchito at 174th and Broadway - including the pupusas - and tried another pupuseria on 163rd and Kelly Street in the Bronx and Comal Pupuseria in Jamaica, Queens which I thought were OK but second-tier. But a Californian I recently took to El Ranchito was unimpressed. Was that just a typical Calfornian Latin-food superiority or is there something I'm missing? If so, is there a Platonic pupusa out there in the NYC area? Thanks.

El Chorro on 5th avenue in Brookln is not bad at all - the best i have had outside of El Salvador. It is closer to Bergen St. directly across from O'Connors.
