Vietnamese sandwiches in NYC
A while ago there was a thread on this board re: vietnamese sandwiches. The best one I found after searching the outer boroughs was at An Dong on 55th St & 8th Ave in Brooklyn. But the unanswered question: where is the best place to get one in Manhattan? There are several places in Chinatown that sell them. Does anyone have any advice on where to get a good one?
I don't know about places for them in NYC (where I live), but if you happen to be over the GWB in NJ (where I work), try Saigon Gourmet in Ft. Lee. Its a little take-out shop in a hard to find shopping strip (795 Abbott Blvd.) and they make a good Vietnamese sandwich and a much better French Vietnamese sandwich with "pate", ham, chicken, etc.
They also give you shrimp chips with every order!

What else is in that strip mall? I can't place it in my mind.

To be honest, I've never actually looked. Not really a strip mall, more of just a bunch of shops in the middle of nowhere. Saigon Gourmet's # is 201.969.0800. Its just on the border of Ft. Lee and Cliffside park.
They only do take-out. From what I understand they used to have an actual restaurant, but now only this.
I also like their lemongrass chicken soup and salad rolls (wasn't crazy about the chinese-y rotis. chicken)
Try it, let me know what you think! (I've only been for lunch)

Is it the location where BBQ Hut used to be? (Between Andersen and Palisades) If so, been there (they set up picnic tables in nice weather), took out from there, had them deliver, yum! Miss them a lot since we moved from Ft Lee.

Try the Vietnamese restaurants on near Center Street, Chinatown. Also - a good place for Vietnamese sandwiches (Banh Mi) is on Kissina and Main Street, Flushing, Queens, around the corner from the last stop on the #7, across from the Queens Library.

NUM PANG! on 12th street and 5th ave is fabulous. i went for about the tenth day in a row today. my favorite is the tiger shrimp with toasted coconut, spicy chili mayo, cilantro, thinly sliced cucumbers and shredded marinated carrots. the bread is a phenomenon unto itself, as it is fresh baked daily, then toasted to a perfect crisp on the outside, and doughy deliciousness on the inside. Its soemething between a brioche, a bagette, and a croissant. it is devine.
