best jamaican cart
Just finished lunch and am inspired to give props to my
favorite Jamaican cart, which has the best jerk chicken
I've ever had, anywhere. (Including Jamaica)
This is the cart parked on liberty park, in lower
manhattan, on Liberty Street between Bwy and Trinity.
The lady makes 3 or 4 dishes every day (always jerk
chicken, and a rotating schedule of curries,
escoviches, etc.), and everything is spicy, saucy, and
totally awesome. Servings are plentiful, and depending
on her mood and what's available at the market, any day
brings fresh surprises: codfish fritters, homemade
drinks (ginger beer, various punches and juices, moss
drinks, and on and on)(I actually don't think she makes
these herself).
Plus she gives me hell when I haven't been by for a
while.
I love New York.
Is she only there at lunch? I've gone by a couple times after work (since it's very close to the WTC PATH station) and not found her. Next time you're picking up lunch, you might ask how late she stays. Thanx (and a tip of the Hatlo hat)!

Oops, sorry to leave this out, yes she is there only at
lunch. She's usually gone by 2:30 or so.

THANK YOU! I got the jerk chicken and my friend got the curried goat, and they were both the best I've had in NY. It appears the mother now sends her son, but he proudly admits that it's her cooking. The escovitched spicy chicken also looked wonderful - I'm going to have a hard time choosing next week!

Not having brought my lunch today, I made the PATH train pilgrimage (I work in Jersey City, alas) to get another hit of the cart lady's fabulous jerk chicken, and she told me she was looking for a good place to open a restaurant.Keith -- or anyone else who patronizes this cart often enough to be chastised for missing a day -- PLEASE stay on top of this situation and let us all know where she can be found if and when that day arrives! She deserves a venue worthy of her cooking, and we deserve to eat there.

be careful what you wish for. no guarantee a restaurant will be as good or better at what has always been a street food
