Best Vietnamese: ENDANGERED TREASURE ALERT!!!!

Pho Bac (82-78 Broadway, Elmhurst NY, 718-639-0000), the area's best, most authentic and most gringo friendly (how's that for a nearly unique combination?) Vietnamese restaurant is hurting. It's empty nearly all the time.

This place is well worth a special trip (see directions, below), the food is a delight and the waiter/manager/cashier/owner is unbelievably nice and helpful. But Joe's Shanghai opened a branch next door and is sucking away customers (Sylvia Carter's Newsday review brought a flood, but that was a while ago). I like Joe's as much as anyone, but they have two other branches and there's only one Pho Bac...and NYC cannot bear to be without at least one Pho Bac.

Please visit, bring big groups, and tell friends (Eric/Irene/Robert please check it out!). When you go, voice your support so they will keep morale up and stay in business through these rough times.

DIRECTIONS:

Driving: From Queens Blvd eastbound, take a left on Broadway, look for a shopping strip with parking lot on the left.

From BQE Westbound (i.e. from Triboro bridge) take Broadway exit, left off ramp, go about a mile, look for look for a shopping strip with parking lot on the right

subway take G/R (or, faster, take express E/F to Roosevelt Ave, then switch to G/R) to Grand Avenue, walk up Broadway

"Oh, Lord! I'm on my way!" (Sing this if you know the
    tune from Porgy and Bess.)

Just want to mention that the Elmhurst Ave station on the G/R (exit at front of the train, if you're coming from Manhattan) is right around the corner from Pho Bac, Joe's, etc. -- much closer than the Grand Ave stop.
