If you don't mind eating outdoors sitting on plastic chairs with your food perched on the rear deck of a truck, consider Big W's Barbecue in Pawling. Search CH or the web for more info.

i also second the big w's rec, altho you may not be hungry then since pawling is a couple of towns after brewster. there is a great cafe right off 22 in millerton, about an hour or so north of brewster, called irving farm that has excellent panini, coffee, etc. in a laid back environment. it's reasonably priced too for good quality. also, in amenia there is the cascade mountain winery (again, right off 22) which supposedly has the most substantial restaurant of all the hudson valley wineries (as quoted in the hudson valley magazine) that wont hit your wallet hard. i havent eaten there yet, but their wines are nice. have fun and report back!
