Any recommendations for a great burger in the Hudson Valley (Dutchess, Ulster, COlumbia, Putnam Counties)?

my thoughts exactly...i read in the hudson valley magazine (in their best of issue) that it was dubbed "the best burger in north america", could that be? and i wonder where they got that from. also, in columbia county, the taconic wayside inn (in copake falls) makes a great burger. as a bonus, you can get it w/ regular fries, spicy fries or sweet potato fries. my kinda place. go w/ the sweet potato!

        Mike in Rhinebeck

#1 - Raccoon Saloon - outrageously delicious burgers, whether or not you cover it with their homemade catsup.

#2 - Hobnobbin Pub in Red Oak Mills (near Spackenkill section of Poughkeepsie) is a close second.

pretty good but can be inconsistent - either Eveready Diner in Hyde Park.

Thanks for the Raccoon Saloon suggestion. My wife and I ate there last night, and wholeheartedly agree that it is a quality place. My burger was perfect (as well as the sweet potato fries with it); my wife's rack of lamb was excellent. Service was top-notch and friendly; prices reasonable; decor attractive and comfortable.

Owners Kevin and Ronan, who have owned it less than a year, were also very attentive; they seem to be paying a lot of attention to having it be a place people want to return to over and over (I know we will be back).

There is an excellent review of the Raccoon Saloon in the Poughkeepsie Journal (recent, too - 4.1.2005) - see link below.

        2. The best burger that I have found in my time in Ulster County is at The Armadillo Bar and Grill on Abeel Street in Kingston. Hand formed patty, perfect roll, wonderful fries. You wouldn't think that a Tex-Mex place would have the best burger, but it beats anything I've had anywhere else. It's not actually listed on the dinner menu, but they will serve it for dinner.
