        <content>I picked up a Benriner Japanese vegetable slicer (like a mandoline without legs) at the V &amp; T Asian supermarket in Hempstead recently. The Benriner cost $18.99, which is a lot cheaper than I've seen it for online. They also have woks starting at about $8.00. The benriner is the 3 1/2 inch (2 1/2 slicing area) wide model not the wider 5 inch one, but it seems just about perfect for potatoes and that's all that really matters.
 
I also bought some Pearl River Bridge Superior Dark Soy Sauce there. John Thorne (www.outlawcook.com) recommends it in the latest issue of Simple Cooking. Watch out for fakes, which they unfortunately also seem to carry. See link below for details on spotting counterfeit bottles.
