I would suggest Fruits Gelateria in palisades park nj.
they have gelato (italian ice cream.) i've tried many gelatos in the city and in nj. but this is my favorite ice cream shop!! my fav is pistachio, mango, and green tea flavors. And their fro-yo is amazing. milk yet icy at the same time. and the portion is amazing, more then any other fro-yo store i've ever seen! their gelato and fro-yo is made from the store. MMmmm.. can't wait to go again. -
If you like Pinkberry or Yolato, I favor this place over those. Yum Yum Yogurt & Cafe on Anderson Ave in Cliffside Park. Just google them. Awesome fro-yo with fresh toppings and pretty good ice cream!
Another place is Fruits Gelateria on Broad Ave in Palisades Park that recently opened up. Awesome Gelato and they also have pretty good Yolato-ish fro-yo. It's on the main drag but I think it's right by Palisades Ave on Broad Ave.

There is a Korean restaurant in Tenafly called Sanmaroo and they have a small cafe attached to the restaurant. They have this amazing yogurt frozen treat that tastes like Pinkberry. I discovered it very recently and I've been going there every night for a special treat!! It really is addictive.

re: ekdd
We literally just did a roundup of all the good ice cream places in Northern NJ on Off The Broiler this week, lots of photos. As with the above, I'd reccomend Bischoff's, Baumgart's, Van Dykes, in Bergen County, and more south definitely Holstens, Marc and Julie's in West Orange, and AppleGate Farms in Montclair, and Ploch's Farm in Clifton. Also the various Magic Fountains are good.
The Piccomolo in Edgewater has just switched franchises to a Yolato, which if you are familiar with Pinkberry in NYC, is basically the same thing. They still carry Piccomolo gelato if you want it, its the same owners. If you like Pinkberry (I do) you can totally avoid going into NYC now for it and get Yolato instead. Enclosed in this post is the Yolato we had last night.

South of Bergen County, in Bloomfield, but conveniently located a short drive off of the GSP is Holsten's. We found it during a late summer quest for the best peach ice cream (and there's was the best we were able to find out of about half a dozen places). Its a throw back ice cream counter/ candystore/food joint. The best ice cream Ive had in NJ in quite some time.

Bingo to all three. VanDyke's is on Ackerman Ave. in Ridgewood and is my choice. Bischoff's in Teaneck is old-fashioned sit-down ice cream parlor with good ice cream. Baumgart's is also sit-down. There's a Baumgart's in Ridgewood, too, on Franklin Ave. across from Stop and Shop; but the original is in Englewood.

re: M-L.
Ice cream is a bit hard to come by in these areas --- if you're REALLY an ice cream afficianado, I'd try the Chinatown Ice Cream factory in NYC's Chinatown, then I'd try Torico's ice cream in Jersey City....then I'd try Bischoff's in Teaneck. If all else fails and I want some amazing ice cream, then order it online from either Graeter's (once you order from there, everything else takes like #@$! and it'll not let you want another ice cream) or Handels Ice Cream which is also amazing. Both are located in the Ohio state regions. There's a Handels down by King of Prussia somewhere, but am not sure.

Brandy, Rita's is actually a chain. However, i dont know of any located in the Northern Jersey area. I have visited Rita's while in the shore area & love it!!!
If any one knows of any other places besides Dairy Queen in Bergen county, then i sure would like to know about it as well.›2 Replies
