Lunch on the way to Saratoga Springs
We are planning a trip to Saratoga Springs in July. Does anyone have a great place to stop for lunch between Newburgh and Saratoga Springs along Rt. 87?

Hey Doc - With apologies to the many earnest and fine restauranteurs of the mid-Hudson Valley, if I were you I'd pack something light to nibble on while you're zooming past New Paltz, Kingston and Saugerties on the Thruway and save your appetite for Hatties in Saratoga as soon as you pull into town.

I agree, especially if the day is nice. Sit in the outdoor garden, order the fried chicken and lemonade or a beer and savor. I love stop off at Hattie's for lunch on the way to or back from Lake George, and wholeheartedly recommend.

I disagree, stop in Kingston and have lunch at Danzante. My favorite Mexican place, owned, operated and patronized by Mexicans, and appreciative gringos as well. Large menu, great food and reasonable prices, just at the start of Broadway 2 minutes from the 87 exit. Parking lot directly next to the restaurant. Sorry but I never miss a chance to plug this place because I love it so much.

Thanks so much. I called Hattie's and they told me they are not open for lunch.

Try Peaches in Stuyvescant Plaza in Albany/Guilderland. It's less than a mile from the exit 24 toll booths - take exit 1S just past the toll booth and turn left on Western Ave - The plaza is a short way up on your left. Very good wholesome food.

mjoyous - funny because I just went to Peaches Cafe for the first time in 20 years last week! Service is still slow, my minestrone soup was okay. Stuyvesant Plaza is so close to Saratoga Springs I'd hold off and have lunch at Scallions, Thai Sushi Garden or Mrs. Londons :)

Friend & I used to go to Peaches 'cause they had homemade blintzes that were excellent. The last time we tried they were literally awful! Watery, broken apart, insipid. Can't say I've tasted much else there than a couple of the soups, which I found bland. Haven't been back since the above noted debacle, and can't imagine a reason to recommend the place. If I need to eat at Sty Plaza, I'd try the new place (forgot the name) -- have read some good things about it.

You might be thinking of Creo'. I've also had a good tuna niscoise salad at Provence and when it's nice you can sit outdoors.

Had a decent panini at Londonderry's recently.

I always walk by Londonberry's on my way to Circles or EATS (their brie stuffed with cream/black truffle was delicious). Might need to check it out next time I need to grab a quick lunch. How's their soup?
