Harold's Deli Reviews?
Hey guys
A friend told me that this deli place called Harold's (exit 10 off of the NJ turnpike) has incredibly large sandwiches (a la carnagie deli). Is this a good comparison? How is the quality? Any recommendations of what to try?
Thanks
Size wise they're pretty much the same as Carnegie. Tastewise from my point of view I actually prefer Harold's to Carnegie but hey that could just be me :)

Is this the place off of Rt. 17 near the firehouse, across from a diner (whose name escapes me...) If so, can you eat there?

There are two Harold's locations that I know of: one in Parsippany on Route 46,(in a hotel?) and the other near Rt. 17 in Lyndhurst. Is there also one on Rt 10?

There is a Harold's deli across from the Raritan Center right off of Route 287. It takes us about 15-20 minutes to get there from Staten Island

Harold's in Lyndhurst is on Polito Ave. It's in a motel/hotel on the corner at the traffic light at the end of the Rte. 17 south ramp.
Given the prices at Carnegie Deli, I think you get a whole lot more for your money at Harold's. I may have posted about this place before, a winter time stop on the way back from trooping around in DeKorte Park.
The soup has baseball(not softball)-size matzoh balls, and they're even pretty good. Sandwiches, I think, are very good on extremely good rye bread. You can get extra slices to take with the monstrous amount of pastrami you'll likely take home. One of the better ideas here, if you can agree on choices, is to split everyting.

I was listening to Joan Hamburg on WOR 710 a.m. A caller mentioned that "Harold's" had the BEST soup. Any comments and can you give me the exact directions off the Turnpike. Lolly

Harold's in Parsippany has the best Mahtzoh Ball Soup.
The mahtzoh ball is the size of a softball, and the chicken broth is homemade.
Everyone I know goes for the outrageously tall triple-decker sandwiches, I go for the soup.

Just had a very good experience there. The sides are as good as or better than any top New York deli. The meats? Maybe 80-85 % per-cent as good as N.Y.C.'s best. The portions? That's Harold's shtick- you can choke a horse, or maybe even a Romanian, with those incredible portions. You split everything, and lotsa bang for the buck. So when you combine the value with the highly competitive quality, this place (or at least the location in Edison, where Harold greets you and holds court) is worth a visit or 2 or 5.

Harold's in Edison has been discussed at length on the Mid-Atlantic board.

Went to this place tonight.. my first time. Egg Cream was best I've ever had.. and largest at 33 oz. I had a grilled cheese.. they got the bread wrong, it was still good, but so messy I couldn't pick it up. Cole slaw was excellent. Pickle bar pretty good. Other people got HUGE pastrami and corned beef "sandwiches" (more like mountains of meat).
I'd go back for the egg cream and cole slaw, but I can't see spending $18 for pancakes.
