Thanksgiving turkeys.... Marval brand?

A couple of years ago, Cook's Illustrated did a comparison of most popular turkey brands and, surprisingly, Marval frozen turkey was highest rated. One year I made a Marval alongside an Empire Kosher and the Marval was far better - more moist and flavorful. But alas! I can't find Marval turkeys anywhere in Westchester (or Fairway, NY) or anywhere this year! Can't find anything online either to track them down. Anyone got any suggestions? Or any suggestions about a great turkey? (I've done the fresh, organic route (they were just ok) as well as the kosher route; the frozen and fresh route: Marval frozen - brined - was the very best ever.) My twenty guests will thank you for any help you can give!

  1. I just returned from the local Hannaford supermarket with a 14 pound Marval frozen turkey in hand. The price this week is 58 cents a pound with no other purchase necessary. They limit you to one turkey per purchase (and it appeared that everyone on line was buying their Thanksgiving Marval turkey). Of course, you can leave the bag in the car and walk back into the store and buy another for Christmas dinner at the same low price. Hannaford has a website where you can check to see if there is one near you. I shop at the Hannaford in Red Hook. Happy turkey!

Scott: Thanks so much for the reply. Turns out there's no Hannaford store in lower Westchester. But I went to the PX at West Point (my mom shops there) and got two. Paid a bit more than you but they're still amazingly cheap for the quality! Happy T Day!
