Adirondacks covers a lot of ground. You may want to sharpen the location a bit for this forum. However, on the premise that you may be near Warrensburg NY, off I-87, by all means go to Oscars SmokeHouse. Artisanal smoked meats, sausages, cheeses, jerkies, hams, bacon, bratwurst, bauernwurst, knockwurst, etc, etc. Was featured in a Food Finds program on FoodTv, and I can personally vouch for the quality of anything they do. My son, who lives in Westport CT, has a standing order for when I visit him from my Saratoga home for Oscars bacon and ham. I get past Oscars almost every Tuesday in the job I have, and usually make a Care package run, either for my kid or for me. Oscars is on Route 9, about midpoint in the town of Warrensburg, on the right. Look for the long sloping lawn, and youll see the signs for Oscars

I grew up spending every summer near Warrensburg and have been eating meats from Oscar's for 55 years. A trip to Oscar's was part of our weekly ritual with the kids getting enough free samples of cold cuts to make a sandwich. The meat was always excellant, however, for fans of headcheese (I know there are a few of you out there) things took a precipitice dive when Oscars sons changed the recipe and style of Oscars legendary headcheese. I haven't even tasted it for 4-5 years, but the new stuff is terrible. Othterwise always great.

Hands Down, it's got to be Friends Lake Inn in Chestertown. It's pricey, and you can't bring kids, but WOW! Make a reservation. Also wonderful is the Italian food at The Place (at Loon Lake). You wouldn't think it, but it's as good as the best in Brooklyn. The prices are fine and kids are welcome. But it gets VERY crowded!

They had very interesting-looking homemade sausages in the general store in Raquette Lake when I was there a few summers ago. Their other deli meats also looked good and locally-made.

Unfortunately, local produce was non existent since it's the mountains and not much grows there.
