    1. It's funny you ask. Yesterday, I went scouring the postings looking for a suggestion for a place in Long Beach to have dinner last night. I came up basically empty, even after going way back in a search. So I took a shot and went to Shogun, a Japanese restaurant on Long Beach Road. Very quiet (typical for a tuesday on LI). Shogun had a hibachi section (like benihana), tatami table and regular seating. Typical Sushi, Japanese dinners, etc. Food was good, but not great.

Heard that Pancho's is OK Mexican, but opted for Shogun. Let me know if you find out anything else.

        1. I live in Rhinebeck but my parents have lived in Lido Beach (just East of Long Beach for over 25 years). here are some suggestions:

Gino's Pizza on Park Avenue (across from LIRR station): two restaurants in one - a pizza place and an Italian restaurant with waitress service. excellent pizza; in my opinion the gold standard for traditional NYC-style Neapolitan pizza. they do a brisk counter business at most times of day so that the pies are almost always absolutely fresh. the Sicilian pizza is OK, not as out-of-this world as the Neapolitan. they also have many varieties opf specialty pies, clazones, etc. which I generally avoid. good garlic knots. too. on the restaurant side, they serve reasonably priced, good-to-large portion sized meals of standard red-sauce style fare. it is not gourmet by any means but good-to-very good. I tend to order their specials which almost always include fish or shellfish.

Peter's Clam Bar - actually on the border of Island Park and Oceanside on Long Beach Road. Great raw bar and pretty darn good fried and broiled seafood.

TKOPS 180 - on E. Park Ave. good variety of foods including some New American. not too expensive but not cheap either

            1. Am not sure if they're actually Long Beach or Lido, but on Park Ave is Lido Kosher Deli, which is pretty good for lunch/dinner. A little further East is Bagel Club, which has decent bagels, etc.
I've eaten at TKOPS. Not bad. The mussels are decent, and the chicken pot pie was good.
More upscale, if you go to Island Park Jimmy Hays steakhouse on Austin Blvd is pretty decent, as long as you're not expecting NYC-quality steakhouse.

                1. My fiancee & I have often enjoyed the crepes at Fresco on Park Ave. It's a nice place to have breakfast & read the paper on a lazy Sunday morning. See the link below for an accurate (IMO) assessment of their food.

As an added side note, there is a Philipino grocery 2 or 3 blocks away on the same side of Park Ave. They have groceries as well as steam-table food available. I have not tried it out yet, but it looks like it might be worth a visit.

                    1. re: Jim D.

A bit late (we've recently moved to LA and don't check the NY-area boards that often), but here's some more info on the Filipino place, Manila Grand. It's actually more of a restuarant than a grocery store, but since the grocery section takes up the front third of the space it would appear at first glance to be more of a small market. The back opens up to a full sit-down restaurant though. Last time we were there it was not steam table food, but cooked to order, though on the weekends I remember they had an all-you-can-eat lunch buffet. Everything we've had there was very good, though if you're not familiar with Filipino food you might want to ask the owners (who are very nice) for suggestions.

                      • Molly's Fish House, Nagahama Japanese Restaurant, Swingbellys Beachside Bbq, Paddy Mc Gees, Nick Diangelo's Duke falcon's are all pretty good

                        Sugo's, A Taberna, Peter's Clam Bar, are loser's

                          1. I would second Swingbelly's BBQ. Good stuff. Clearly one of the best of the quickly dying BBQ scene on Long Island.

                              1. Try Duke Falcon's (opposite the rr station). Good food at moderate prices. Interesting menu.
