JULIO AND CESARE IN WESTBURY, LONG ISLAND

Any thoughts on this restaurant? Excellent food, or just so so? Completely overpriced? Is it good for a special occasion? Is it romantic, or more old-school Italian?

This is one of those places I just don't get. It has been around for years, and certainly has it's devoted regulars, but there are so many better Italian restaurants in the area, I have no idea why anyone would think it was that great.

I was there for lunch several months ago with my MIL, will not return. Not only is the atmosphere antiquated, the food was bland and sad looking on the plate. Liked Piccola Bussola, nearby on Old Country Rd much better.

I go there about every 6 weeks with a bunch of guys to shoot the breeze in the guise of a "book club"-The food is very consistent and good but not memorable-that said, I think it's a bit too pricey

I agree. Food is good, but not wonderful. The service is very good. In general, though, the place has a dated vibe to me, and is too pricey for what it is.

Today I had lunch at Giulio Cesare. we were a party of 12. I have been privileged to eat there many times over the past 25 years. I am by no stretch of the imagination a regular. Yes the decor has remained much the same, and that is much of its charm. The staff from top to bottom has always been kind and attentive. The menu has remained the same over all the years. That’s why we go there. The food is outstanding service impeccable.

I've never been there but every time I pass there on the weekend the place is PACKED. I've got to try it some time.
