Help: One night in Islip, LI
- Jeanette from AZ Feb 27, 2002 11:31 AM
Arriving at Islip Airport after long flight from Arizona in time for dinner. We will have a rental car, but really don't want to dress up or eat fancy as we will be leaving the next day for an 18 day cruise. Suggestions, please, for where to eat dinner, preferably not far from the airport.
And if anybody knows a good, cheap, clean motel, we'd be grateful. The Econolodge at MacArthur Airport is cheap -- so cheap, I am concerned. Anybody know anything about it?
reccomend mama/villa lombardi's - i believe it's in holbrook - probably within half-hour from airport - excellent italian food!
Never been in the econolodge, but it looks ok from the outside. Been to the Holiday Inn, and that works, but not so cheap.
As for food, stay away from the Normandy Inn, if it is still there. 3 restaurant recommendations:
The Irish Coffee Pub in East Islip on Carleton Avenue, just south of Sunrise Highway. Good all around fare, not pub grub as the name might suggest.
Viva la Vida, in Oakdale on Montauk Highway, very good Mexican and Spanish food.
Coopersmith's Steakhouse on Montauk Highway in East Islip: I actually prefer their non steak menu to their steaks, although the Prime Rib is generous.
