I'm going to be driving down the Jersey Shore this weekend. Can anyone recommend any particularly good seafood joints? Specifically, someone has told me about a place called Klein's, in Belmar -- any good?

Recommendations for endearingly seedy bars are also welcome.

Thanks in advance,
Paul

  1. Bum Rogers in Seaside Park, just before Island Beach. We go every weekend over the summer... sit at the bar and have mussels or a crab cake sandwich for lunch, and go back for shrimp scampi or surf & turf for dinner. Just can't get enough. It's open all year, although i've never been past sept/oct.

    1. This posting may be too late for this weekend, but good for future reference. We have found an excellent little seafood restaurant in Fair Haven (next to Red Bank). It adjoins a tiny fish market and everything was very fresh. There are always daily specials as well as a varied menu. I found the crab cakes to be especially good on our first visit.
The address is 630 E. Front Street. Unfortunately, I can't remember the exact name of the restaurant. I want to say, Bayfront Charley's...but that may not be correct. The address, however, is correct. Also note, they are not open on Monday, but serve lunch and dinner every other day.

      1. Yes. In Sea Bright--Ocean Ave. Thompson's Fish and Chips. Excellent food. Family owned. Small but service attentive. Stuffing in fish dishes awesome. You'll love it.

        1. Rechecked and it was close, but no cigar! The restaurant/fish market is Bayshore Charlie's Seafood. Out of Red Bank the street name changes so the correct address for Fair Haven is 603 River Road.
