Lunch in Bridgeport?

Are there any places to eat lunch in the Bridgeport area or somewhat south?

  1. The S and S Dugout is great for breakfast and lunch in Southport, CT just over the Westport line and next to the Pequot Motor Inn. Its not fancy, just good home cooking. I was there last week. It is now run by Ed (85 years old or so) and his grandson. They make real mashed potatoes, bake their own roasts and Ed has a unique recipe for hot sausage. His hot sausage sandwiches with melted cheese are something. My favorite is breakfast, especially the potatoes. They fry the mashed potatoes a little bit on the grill and then put them under the broiler which gives a nice brown crust over which a large dollop of butter is placed when served. This is probably the best place I know of for road food.

    1. Bridgeport is a great eating city!
      I love Bloodroot, a feminist/vegeterian restaurant
in the Black Rock section, on Ferris Street off very
near Fairfield Avenue. It's on a deadend street by
      the LI Sound.

Great salads, soups, omelets, and homemade bread.
The desserts are to die for. Everything is homemade
and you can see the open kitchen. A bookstore is adjacent.

Have lunch or dinner and then work off the food by taking a stroll by St. Mary's By The Sea, a beautiful walkway along the Sound. There are lighthouses in the distance. Definitely a relaxing walk.
