Depres Wine & Liquor, in the Shoprite plaza at the south end of Croton. Vincent Depres, the owner, imports some of his own wines, looking especially for lesser-known French wines that he can sell for good prices. In general, his prices are 10 to 15% better than Zachy. This is not surprising: At Zachy, you're paying for them to stock _everything_. If I want a case of a particular wine, Vincent will get it for me within a couple weeks, and he always has something interesting if I just need a bottle for dinner; but he doesn't try to maintain anything near Zachy's stock nor does he cellar great wines the way they do.

On the other hand, he does hold a couple of great tastings each year, usually at Peter Pratt's Inn in Yorktown, with 40-50 wines on hand to taste and great discounts.

Rochambeau in Dobbs Ferry has an excellent selection of wines, liquors, desert wines, etc. I find them to be deeper and more interesting than Zachy's. BTW, behind Zachy's is the Scarsdale branch of La Renaissance, a terrific classic French bakery - try their signature pastry.

Suburban Wines & Liquor in Yorktown is very good
He has tastings - some with restaurants in the store including Peter Pratt's and he has classes
        Very, very good selection
