Looking for Food in Hudson, New York
In Hudson, try Charleston - pleasant and comfortable
room and interesting cooking; also the restaurants at
the St. Charles Hotel -
For really interesting Thai, head across the river to
Catskill (about five minutes away) and try Wasana's
Thai Restaurant on Main Street - it is like eating in
a family kitchen and totally unlike all the
oversauced, too sweet food that passes for Thai

We tried Charleston and had a mixed experience -- I mean, the atmosphere was certainly pleasant, and the food tasted good -- but it didn't really seem to justify the high menu prices. I had a bowl of pasta that should have cost $9, tops, for $13. Most of the entrees seemed to be between $16 and $21, which seemed about $5 more than they should have cost. That said, it's a nice place; while it would be totally undistinguished if it were in the city, it doesn't have much competition in new American cuisine in Hudson.
I was more impressed with Cascades, a sandwich shop at 407 Warren St. They have good soup, and my sandwich (warm roast pork with barbecue sauce and caramelized onions) was very tasty. Ellen's egg salad on a bagel was nothing special, and the bagel was a little stale.
