After a few visits, I can recommend this Italian
restaurant on the pier (landfill?) at Piermont. It's
not the best place you'll ever eat, but it's pretty
good, consistent, friendly, and reasonably priced ($40
for dinner for two).
Last night, we had two dishes: fusilli with a marinara
sauce flavored with capers, olives, and eggplant, which
was good. It had a bit too much oil in the sauce, and
I think they browned the garlic too much, but it was
nice. (Badly cooked garlic often gives me nasty
indigestion, which didn't happen last night, so it
couldn't have been too bad.) We followed it with roast
veal in an interesting brown sauce with dates,
apricots, and mushrooms. A bit sweet for my taste, but
very well done.
Their pasta is always good, freshly made. They have a
small store round the back where they sell it.
PERSONALLY, I AM NOT FOND OF PASTA AMORE AT ALL. I
THINK THE FOOD IS MUCH TO HEAVY ON THE OIL.
IF YOU WOULD LIKE A CHARMING LITTLE ITALIAN RESTAURANT
TRY PORTOFINO ON PIERMONT AVENUE. THE MENU FEATURES
WONDERFUL ITALIAN DISHES AND LIGHT SAUCES. THERE IS A
NICE VARIETY FEATURING DELECTABLE PASTA, SEAFOOD,
CHICKEN AND BEEF. THE WINE SELECTION IS QUITE GOOD,
ONE CAN ORDER BY THE GLASS OR BY THE BOTTLE.
THE SERVICE IS FRIENDLY AND EFFICIENT.
PERSONALLY, I AM NOT FOND OF PASTA AMORE, I FIND THE
FOOD VERY HEAVY AND AS YOU SAID, VERY OILY.
IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A GOOD ITALIAN RESTAURANT IN
THE PIERMONT ARE, I WOULD SUGGEST PORTOFINO ON
PORTOFINO IS A SMALL INTIMATE RESTAURANT FEATURING
VERY GOOD ITALIAN FOOD. THE PASTA DISHES ARE
EXCELLENT AS ARE THE SEAFOOD, CHICKEN, AND BEEF
OFFERINGS. THE WINE LIST IS VARIED WITH VERY GOOD
THE SERVICE IS EFFICIENT AND FRIENDLY.
