we're quite fond of dodici in rockville centre and it's only about 15 minutes from garden city.it has many traditional items and some unusual things too.also a huge wine list.they have some outside tables too.

We've always had good experiences at Bennys on Post Ave. in Westbury. Once a year or two ago my wife and I were in the neighborhood and decided to walk in for an early dinner but unfortuately, I was wearing shorts and was politely told by the owner that the dress code forbade them. Not a problem I told him I understood completely. He then said to wait one moment and that seeing as I was about the same size as one of the cooks, (who as it happened always had a clean pair of slacks at work), he offered me his pants. I grasciously declined. Now that's service!

Avoid Stresa in Manhasset. Mediocre food, high prices,
fairly pretentious, and bad service, unless you eat
there on a nightly basis. We went there for a
celebration over the summer, and with every bite
regreted not going to Piccola Venezia instead.

Stresa is a rare find. The service is extraoridnarily attentive without being overbearing. The dining experience is leisurely and the food is delicious. May not be the best Long Island has to offer but surely worth a try.

I would have to agree with you on both to Avoid Stresa in Manhasset. And Piccola Venezia in Astoria being a good one to go to......
Another one to avoid would be Brivo in East Hills, (Glen Cove) I'd avoid it like the plague!
