Burek in Astoria
How's that Burek place on 31st Avenue?
They tout the "best burek" and I'm quite intrigued.

It's pretty good, but make sure you get a slice fresh from the oven, not one that's been sitting around a while.

Can someone please post the name of the place being referred to here. Thanks.

I'm not sure of the exact name, but it's on 31st Avenue around 34th Street.

I did a search. It's called Djerdan, 34-04 31st Ave. There's a second place called Cevabdzinica Sarajevo on 37-18 34th Ave. Both have Burek.

Djerdan is excellent for burek, ask for a fresh one, but even the ones that have been laying around for a while taste great.

Djerdan is a mini-chain with locations in Midtown Manhattan and Midwood (or perhaps Bensonhurst), Brooklyn.

interesting fact... does this mean we can't post about it on chowhound?

Oh - no - not what I was getting at. I was just implying that a trip to Astoria may not be necessary to enjoy their bureks.

The best thing to get, really the only thing to get, at Djerdan is their buredzike, or the "special" burek, especially if it's hot out of the oven. They don't have these at the 38th St branch. Not sure about the Brookyn store. But these are the only reason I go to Djerdan.

I bought a ton of different kinds of burek here for my daughter's graduation party last year. Everone loved it so much that I had to go twice within a few hours to replenish. So much fun to see Koreans , Japanese, Russian, African American , Mexicans, straight mid-westerners and all of us Jews (it reminds us of our Bubba's knishes) gobbling up burek from down the street. It's fantastic, cheap party food. God,I LOVE QUEENS!!!!!!!
