I agree with all who said Duffys it is great and I am a regular. But here is an odd place to find a great burger maybe better than Duffys in some ways.. Royal Crown Bakery on Hylan Blvd. I am not sure if the burger is on the menu but ask for it it is fantastic and of course the best bun anywhere with home made fries NOT FROZEN!! Enjoy!!

Hi adamG,
I have to say that I am shocked! shocked!! SHOCKED!!! to be perhaps the first person to mention this on Chowhound. (If I'm not, someone please correct me)
A friend of mine who grew up in and still lives in the Bronx swears by "the Murder Burger."
The Murder Burger can be found at First Way Deli, a little hole in the wall place at 1030 East Tremont Avenue (betw. Boston Rd and Bryant Ave. - hard to find on Google Street View, by the way)
Apparently, it is the burger of choice among locals for its seasonings and flavorful, large diameter, not-too-thick, not-too-thin meat patty that is cooked to order. I have not had it myself though my friend (who's a pretty picky eater) absolutely LOVES it.
I have been meaning to try it forever, but I don't get up to the Bronx that often.
Anyway, that's a possibility.
ciao,
Glendale is hungry...

re: Tay
When I lived in Staten Island, between my first apartment in Brooklyn and the one I live in now, I used to stop off at the White Castle on 92nd St. on the way home. Usually late at night. Now that was fine dining. I mourned when they tore the place down to put up an apartment building.

Piper's Kilt is great. I live near the one in Eastchester and you can't go wrong. If you're looking for something a little more upscale, try Jake's Steakhouse (actually very close to Piper's Kilt). Great steaks, but phenomenal burgers.

I admittedly have not had a duffy's burger and will remedy this situation shortly. But the best burger I have had on staten island was at Jody's on forrest ave. The cheese steak and wings are pretty good also.

I'm not a burger person but on Staten Island, I'd have to say Andrew's Diner on Hylan Blvd in Great Kills apparently has very good burgers. It's not really a Diner in the traditional sense. All their food is fresh and delicious. Big portions, fresh food AND good service are always a winning combination. I have overheard many people mention that their burgers are absolutely scrumptious. I'll be interested to see if anyone else posts a Staten Island burger recc.

re: David O.
Duffy's Tavern on Forest Ave. across from the Staaten Catering Hall is the hands down winner here. Served on a toasted english muffin, this half pound of fresh ground beef is best served with cheddar cheese and accompanied by the seasoned criss cut or sweet potato fries. If you're really hungry, you have to start with the crab claw cocktail. The place actually bills itself as having the Best Burger on Staten Island on it's awning. An understatement if I don't say so myself.
I'm glad I decided to peruse the site tonight and see your inquiry. I wouldn't expect the smug, noodle and ketchup eating, midwestern transplants on this site to acknowledge Staten Island for anything outside of Killmeyers or New Asha anyway. -
