Has any chowhounds tried the chicken at Jerk City on Church Avenue and 34th Street in Brooklyn? It was profiled in the Times this week and I am planning to try it out.
I went to Jerk City two weeks ago. It's out of the way, but worth the trip for some tasty picnic food. The portions are humungous and the service is very friendly, although the place is not much for atmosphere. (do NOT plan on eating there -- we got some orders to go and brought it to the park).
The chicken was very tender, though not as spicy as I would have liked it. The rice and peas was moist and tasty, though again, I would have liked it a little spicier.
I've had better, but this place was definitely worth returning to. Make sure to get the pineapple ginger drink -- it really complements the flavor of the jerk spices.
You might also try Badoos, at 54-22 Church Av. The Times said they have maybe the best jerk chicken in the city. I dont know about that, but it's a little tin-roofed shack with a rickety table inside, grills right outside, it's like eating in someone's house in a small town in Jamaica. (I should note that I havent been there in several years.)
