Anyone have suggestions on where I might find a particularly good bakery shop so I can deliver items to the offices of customers of mine?

In particular, I'm looking for great tasting but basic items - (muffins, etc.) that would be good for a wide group of people and tastes. Odd items or house specialties that I could include with the offering would be a great addition as well but not as important as the more basic items.

Location near Forest Hills would be great but anywhere in either Queens or even Nassau is fine if the offerings are good enough.

Thanks.

Andre's is great for rugelach, and strudel..but, I don't believe they deliver..very old world place...in every sense........

I don't get the raves for Bonnelle, was never impressed with that place, and they're nasty to boot...

Dolce Italia on Metrop in Forest Hills has some good stuff, namely amazing black and whites, and good vanilla/choc mousse cakes, and mini pastries, similiar to Bruno Bakery in the city (the Spanish owner studied with him to learn the craft)..and sell them much less expensive than Bruno.....Not sure if they will deliver either..their phone is: 718-268-5297

The greek pastries at Titan in Astoria are great..don't know if they deliver though, but I think that Artopolis in Astoria might deliver, and they have some beautiful stuff.......

I've never seen much in the way of muffins and breakfasty stuff at Dolce, although I agree that their mousse cake is very good.

I stand by my rec of Bonelle for muffins and the like. There are two sisters there. The one that is the owner (Rahita) is there from early a.m. to early afternoon. She is really nice and accomodating. Her not so nice sister takes over mid afternoon. If you're going to give them an order, call (or go) in the morning, and ask for Rahita (she also answers to Rita).

I have to agree about Bonelle
they do really nice products
try their croissants and danish

but follow the advice and ask for Rahita - her sister/sister-in-law is a nasty piece of work who is not customer oriented at all.

They don't deliver either

as for Andre's - they make the BEST cheese danish in the city - certainly in queens. Their rugelach is superb, and other danish are good too.

Richters Bakery in Little Neck and the Cake Box in Whitestone are good Jewish Style Bakerys'

Don't know how Storks is these days, but they were always good for butter cookies and chocolate dipped stuff.
\
No fancy pants bakeries - ala Little Hens in Queens (yet)

as for muffins, believe it or not Costco is pretty good. There's a place in Brooklyn called the Connecticut Muffin Factory - not bad either

hope this helps

good bakeries are hard to find these days.

Oh - Bonelle makes excellent cakes - try their lemon cake - it's made with fresh lemon curd and out of this world delicious

I have had large orders with her many times (catering) and she does not deliver. She can arrange for delivery through a service I think but it was quite costly. Maybe worth it for some but business wise it wasn't.

I personally don't trust a service either because cakes are tricky and need to be handled with kid gloves. I once read something Sylvia Weinstock's husband said about cake deliveries - and was in tears from the laughter...

Maybe we should organize another long overdue big NYC chowhound fundraiser or just get together – bringing favorites from around the boros. Last one I went to was years ago at the bohemian beer garden in Astoria and the food rocked. That’s where I got turned on to banh mah among other things.

How are the breads at Royal?

The "Cheese Danish Challenge" of the Outer-Boroughs - it'll have to wait a couple weeks due to a busy schedule, but I'LL MEET YOU ANY TIME with a shopping bag full of ROYAL CROWN's masterful danishes AND legendary breads.

Want the sneak preview? ROYAL CROWN is on the edge of Borugh Park/Bensonhurst on 14th Avenue...the retail bakery is between 65th and 66th Streets and their excellent paninoteca is between 63rd and 64th Streets. (Take the "N" or "D" to 62nd St./New Utrecht Ave.).

Will be in touch! Let's consider an open spot near Newtown Creek.

Skinny?...that's funny!

Here are some must tries:

A round loaf with or without a center hole, well-done.
Fig Cookies.
Pine nut cookies.
Cookies (IIRC also fig) with one end dipped in dark chocolate.
Stuffed bread with broccoli rabe/sausage (best heated).
THOSE shaved-almond-covered CHEESE DANISH, well done!
Another loaf of bread (try a long one).
Sfogliatelle.

Only one item to not recommend (only because they're being made differently than in the past) is the prosciutto stick.

As an aside, if you're at all curious about the panini spot down the avenue, they've got some of Brooklyn's finest calamari, which won't cost you a head and a tentacle.

Bring a sturdy shopping bag for the ride home. And remember to check www.mta.info for weekend subway diversions.

Whatever you do, DO NOT go to Jay Dee bakery on Queens Boulevard near 67th Ave.

They sold me an apple-filled crumb cake that they insisted was fresh - made "that morning," and when it was served, was filled with MOLD. When I brought the remainder back, they gave me a hard time. They either used rotten apples "that morning," or lied about how long it had been in the showcase.

Disgraceful.

Take the extra time, cash, and steps to walk up the Boulevard to Andre's Hungarian Pastry shop. Nicer people, and much better quality products.

It's a small place owned by a married couple and it churns out fantastic phyllo pastries as well as light as air cookies and coffee cakes.
I've been raving about Nita's European Bakery for years, but if anyone tried them they never reported back till now. Pastries, cakes, candy... all good. They make Dobos torte also. What I would avoid is anything that you'd find in another bakery (they're not bad but it's just not where they shine) like tiramisu and generic looking sponge cakes with pink frosting - I'm sure you understand what I mean.

They're truly excellent.
