Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and The Bronx

Asian grocery / markets in Queens, east of (before) Flushing

Does any one have any favorites? I discovered a nice Korean supermarket on Roosevelt, north side next to a parking lot, NY Chonghap Market, 72-11 Roosevelt Ave.
I still couldn't find those southeast asian noodles I've been wanting though.
The prepared grilled Kimchi they have wrapped up next to the cashier is delicious, I took it home and fried it in a skillet till brown... mmmmm.

    1. Chonghap is good -- but I like Pacific (on 75th and Broadway, right on top of the subway entrance) a little better. it's bigger, a little better organized and they have a nice fish section....

        1. In addition to Pacific, you can try the Hong Kong supermarket on 45th ave at Broadway. I generally like it a touch better than Pacific as it has better parking in the area and is a bit larger.

            1. In the Elmhurst area, besides the Chinatown area on Broadway and 46th Ave, there is also an American style “one-stop” shopping Chinese supermarket on Queens Blvd (south side of Queens Blvd and the very next block west of the Pan American Hotel and across the street from the East Manor Buffet). The Chinese supermarket has a small parking area in the back, but one must get there early on weekends (before 11 AM), otherwise the parking lot may become fully parked up and one must wait for a shopper to leave in order to get a parking spot. We have been there many times and have never failed to obtain a parking spot, but when the parking lot is full, one must be patient in waiting for a customer to leave. The building is painted an ugly pink color with a large sign on top of the building with the letters “GW.”

This quite large supermarket has all the typical Chinese vegetables and meat/seafood sections, and a large dried goods section where you might be able to find your “southeast asian noodles.” We assume the noodles you are looking for are dried. In the refrigerated sections, there are also fresh noodles available. In addition, the supermarket has a small restaurant where one can eat-in or take-out (three steam table items with rice for approx. $5-$6) and a cooked Chinese foods section (hanging ducks, chickens, roast pig, BBQ pork, etc), which are both run by the East Manor Buffet restaurant across the street. There is even a small independent cubicle size sushi takeout section next to the restaurant.
