Scala's Bistro

Does anyone have any thoughts about whether this restaurant is worthy of one of my two dinners in SF?

    1. 2 dinners ever? Definitely not. But, if you're here a few times a year, it's worth trying.

I assume you're staying at the Sir Francis Drake, or someone you're traveling with suggested it? It's a decent SF Italian place, but if you're looking for the best of SF, chowhounders could suggest several other restaurants for a special experience.

        1. Scala's used to be quite good, but the original team that opened and ran it for a few years did not renew their contract. The one time I tried it again I don't think it had the same sparkle; but my guess is it should be reliable/decent at least. I have not been for a couple years, though so no telling.

            1. since donna left i haven't thought of scala's as a place to dine, rather a place to enjoy a quick, refreshing drink after a day of the traffic of union square. the bar is usually packed, and you can eat in there, but they do make a great drink and their calamari with green beans at least used to be the perfect foil for their martini.
