Hey all...

I'm in a bit of a pickle for dinner tonight. I have one low carb eater and one vegan meeting up for dinner, and one of them wants to try Miriam on 5th Ave. in Brooklyn. I read the postings about this place below, and it sounds like good food, but I'm wondering whether anyone who has been there can speak to whether it will be an appropriate place for someone who will only eat meat (the lovely sounding salads, pita, etc. will be out) and someone who won't eat animal products at all. Any advice would be much appreciated--including, if Miriam won't work, suggestions for alternatives in the area.

It's a pretty good option.
There's goat cheese in some of the really delicous veg things, but not all - you should let them know you're non-dairy. Given the Slope location, I bet they'd be accomadating for vegans. A pity to leave the grilled octopus out of the fab herb salad...but it would still be a good salad.

And there's plenty for the carnivore.

A somewhat surprising vegetarian/carnivore option is Prune in the East Village. The menu looks insanely meaty, but they make up a fantastic vegetarian plate with alot of variety.

I think Miriam is a terrible idea. I am a vegetarian and found their food to be not good at all. In general it is a carnivore place and when that happens often they don't know how to do veggie food. I would go to Thai Sky so the veggie can have the basil mock duck and the carnivore can get one of their great curries.

I think bonnies has a good portabella sandwhich and a couple veggie options and the carnivore will be in heaven. Then you can go over to the Gate for a drink aft.

The chip shop is also a good idea. They have a veggie shepherds pie and the carnivore can do the fish. The deep fried candy bars will please them both.

Yup. I'm a meat eater. My wife's a vegetarian. We live around the corner and have been to Miriam three times since it opened. Quite the upgrade from Surreal Cafe.
