This weather is a killer. Do you guys have any secrets to escape the heat here in brooklyn for an affordable dinner?

I'm getting sick of turkey sandwiches, and can no longer justify ice cream dinners!

Take the train to the beach, and take a fresh mozzerella and roasted pepper sandwich with you from the closest Italian deli.

(proscuitto optional)

The sandwich holds up great -- actually gets better in the heat -- and there's always a breeze coming off the sea . . . .

I went to lunch recently on an extremely hot and humid day. I ordered a large bowl of an awesome Gazpacho Soup. I followed this with an Avocado Salad. A perfect hot/humid weather meal. The restaurant is not in Brooklyn but I'm sure there's no shortage of Brooklyn Restaurants that have these two items.

How about a BLT? I haven't yet but they sure are good.
or...
Salads are nice to make in this weather... gettin your hands in all that cool water.
A salad of watercress, shaved carrots, cilantro, parsley, tomatoes,
all under a dressing of ginger/tamari soy s,/sesame oil/lemon juice... topped with tuna or chickpeas.

Bacon-tomato sandwhiches, definitely.

Nachos. So unhealthy, but I make them with lots of chopped jalapeno and fresh tomato in addition to the salsa and cheese. Ummmm, jalapenos.

I also will make chilled noodle dishes based on ramen or soba noodles - it only takes two minutes to cook the noodles, i toss some veggies in with the noodles to blanch (bok choy, broccoli) or add fresh at the end (bean sprouts) and then mix with a sesame oil, rice wine vinegar and soy sauce vinagrette with a litle thai chili sauce added. Requires a minimum of heat to make and is quite refreshing.

Cucumbers and tomatoes.
Summer squash
Red onions
Steam for a couple minutes, season to taste.

Alternatively, just to stay away from the stove, just eat the cucumbers and tomatoes raw, with a little salt and pepper. Great cukes and tomatoes at all the local greenmarkets in Brooklyn ... the weekday one at the courthouse is superb.
