Chili Crab Festival Reports?
I hated last year's festival so much (no food, long lines, nobody to explain what was going on...) I didn't go this year. A friend of mine went this year and said it was "much better", but she was in a rush and didn't give any details. Anybody else go this year?

I went this year. The crabs were tasty, and actually spicy, but not over-the-top great. There was an independent vendor selling fresh shrimp summer rolls that were delicious -- one of the better ones I've had, in fact. I was there around 1:30 PM, and the lines weren't bad. The servers were slow -- some of them should get sent to a New England clam bake for retraining by volunteer firemen. I didn't go last year, so I can't provide a comparison. It was a little disorganized -- they didn't make it clear that you had to buy tickets, or exactly where the ticket booths were. We stuck around for an hour, watched some kickboxing, and headed over to Superfine for drinks.

We went to the festival around 4:00pm. It was crowded, but there definitely weren't any waits for the food and there was plenty of crabs to be had. $4 got you a bowl with about a half crab, chili sauce, and a roll. There wasn't a lot of seating, so we ate them standing up and it got pretty messy.
The crabs seemed a little overcooked to me, but with so much spicy sauce on it, you really couldn't tell. It was hard to pick out all the meat by hand (no good utensils), so I dove in face first as much as possible, alternating between the crab and my $4 beer. By the time we finished, we all looked like we just walked out of a Buffalo wing eating contest. I thought about going back for more, but my lips were so numb from the spices that it seemed more trouble than it was worth.
