Pilgrim Kitchen - Pies / Donuts / Cakes

Appropriately my last stop on my annual pilgrimage to Olson's cherry stand ended with at stop at Pilgrim Kitchen.
Located at 311 El Camino Real in Belmont, this bakery lived up to my memories. Pilgrim Kitchen still produces the same quality of pies that the old Marie Calendar did many, many years ago.
It's one of the few places you can still buy a Boston Cream Pie.
I had a piece of the apricot pie that constained whole half apricots. More apricot than juice. The crust is flakey and fresh. An excellent value for $2.50 a slice. There are usually a dozen flavors of fruit pies.
They have a large selection of cream pies as well ... banana cream, lemon merangue, sour creme cherry, etc, etc, etc.
They have some old fashioned Danish. I saw one of those coffee cake rings that has circles of different fruit fillings like cherry, pineapple, berry.
I had my first jelly donut in many years. Large, puffy completely encased in fresh powdered sugar, the raspberry jelly oozed all over. I was covered in confectionary sugar, my fingers sticky with jelly. It was like being seven years old again.
Calories well spent.
If you are searching for a particular flavor of pie, you can call them at 592-0638.
This has been a mainstay in this area for years. About 5 years ago I bought one of their lemon meringue pies and was very dissapointed. I think I had heard that it changed owners in the last few years. It's good to know that the product has regained it's original reputation. I'll have to give them a try - I had forgotten about them.
