Great Canadian/American bakery in Midwood

I forget the name, but lately I've been a big fan of the bakery on the corner of Avenue K and Coney Island Avenue. Aside from it being the only Canadian/American eatery that I'm aware of, they have a hilarious sign out front that says "Under New Heimishe Management". I think that means that nice, caring folks have taken the place over.

The large crescent-shaped chocolate-ribboned thing in the case across from the door is simply divine. The texture is very unique, and the chocolate stuff, which reminds me of a gourmet, thicker version of Fox's U-bet, starts to dribble out halfway into eating it. It's quite heimische indeed.

The first time I went in, they did have smallish Montreal-style bagels, which I did not try. This time the room was crammed full of fragrant Challahs, still warm from the oven. Oh, also, I've tried their black and white cookie and was not impressed. Ask the folks who work there which pastries are Canadian-style.

BTW, this neighborhood rocks. The Kosher Bagel Hole is on the same block, as are a couple of high-end fruit stores and Olympic Pita. And you-know-who is around the corner on Avenue J.

    1. So I'm guessing poutine and pea-meal bacon are right out, then?

Not a fan of Montreal bagels, but it sounds like this place is worth checking out - thanks for the heads up!

        1. Being a Canuck, I'd be extremely curious to hear what constitutes a "Canadian" baked good. Do they mix moose and/or beaver into their pastries? Do they serve snow cones?
