Eric Eto, in a General Topics post that may have you wandering back in time a year or 20, muses about food, memory and love. I flag it here, for any non-General Topics readers, because he mentions a hot dog stand near the Fisherman's Wharf TraveLodge where something unforgettable occurred. Anyone know the place? Extra points if you're the girl he had a crush on in junior high school.

And here I am almost 30 years later looking up a hot dog stand I remember as being in front of Ripley's Believe it or Not (or very nearby - up on a raised sidewalk on the south side Jefferson Street). The year was 1982. I got a dog with everything (minus sauerkraut) and it was the 3rd best hot dog I ever had (because I just ate #1 and #2 about 5 minutes ago). It may even have been a Chicago dog for all I know - I certainly remember the pickle and tomato wedges, but it also had cheese and maybe even <gasp> KETCHUP.

Not ironically, it's also the best thing I've ever eaten near Fisherman's Wharf.

I remember the place! Wow that was a long time ago. Great hot dogs. Used to get it to go and eat in the car.
