Stone Park, Bellville, Applewood.
These would be my choices.

Also Al Di La, Scottadito, Nana for something less expensive.

Best of all: Convivium.

I recommend Convivium as well.
Had the lamb there last week, and I can't stop thinking about it.....
I only have one complaint about it and that is the service is rather slow.

Scottadito & Al Di La yes. Don't know Nana.

Totally NOT a fan of Nana. Sushi is average, service is average, and atmosphere leaves me cold- garden is nice but not enough to go. Sorry.

I have to disagree. I enjoy Nana very much, and have enjoyed more than a few things I've tried there, particularly their miso soup. I would go to Kiku if you're a sushi snob, but I happen to like many of the other things they have available on the menu (and their specials).

My favorite sushi place is Geido (331 Flatbush Ave between Park and Prospect Pls, 718-638-8866). It's a unpretentious, good and authentically Japanese. It's close enough to Park Slope.

Kikyu (16thSt on 7th) is fabulous sushi, I have friends who come from Manhattan to eat there. Very fresh cut.

My thoughts on the best of Park Slope..First avoid all restaurants on 7th Avenue, they are all awful. I would focus on restaurants on 5th Avenue -- Thai Skyy, Bonnie's Grill, Stone Park Cafe and Rosewater.

I second Rosewater

Moutarde

I was there a couple of times soon after they opened and was not too impressed. They also received a good amount of criticism on this board. Since that time they've changed their menu but there have been few recent postings - has the food/service improved??

There's also Blue Ribbon.

I love the Blue Ribbon Sushi in Park Slope, but I don't like the regular Blue Ribbon. Have had a couple disappointing meals there.

My favorites:
Al Di La
Convivium

Since this is family from out of town, if they are anything like my family, you want to keep it simple and not too specialized or adventurous.
In that vein, I suggest Blue Ribbon (regular) on 5th Ave. The food is consistently well-prepared traditional stuff - it won't blow you away, but it's never bad. And if somebody got something they did not like, the staff at BR is so so very responsive, they would immediately replace it with many apolgies. Blue Ribbon definately gets my highest rating for service - it's the best in Bklyn, and beats most Manhattan establishments on service quality.
The raw bar is very good and the menu has an eclectic mix from which everybody can find something they like.
I also recommend Tempo - took my in-laws there for Thanksgiving and they were happy. Consistent, basic, traditional. Just what you want for your in-laws from out-of-town.
