    1. There used to be an Italian restaurant not far from AMMI that served a lot of Croatian dishes (the owners were Istrian). Anyone know the name? Is it still around?

Funny, I was just looking at the website for Ponticello Ristorante in Astoria and noticed that the two owners are from Istria/Trieste/Croatia. Perhaps that is the place you are thinking of.

Some examples of the Istria/Trieste used to be the Lanterna on 30th Ave around 23rd St; The Bank restaurant on 35th St and Broadway where Caravan chicken is now; and the still open Punta Dura on 34th Avenue and 41st, right off Steinway St one avenue south of Broadway.

Usually, you can figure them out because the restaurants have Italian names and somewhere on the menu or window you see something like: Northern Italian and Adriatic cuisine.

Interesting thing about Punta Dura: it served as the location of the Italian restaurant in the HBO series The Sopranos until they built a restaurant stage at the Silvercup studios in LIC.

              Interesting thing about

              • Ezio from Piccola Venezia is from Istria/Croatia and has a few dishes from the homeland on the menu. They used to have some Croatian wines as well, not sure if they still do.
