I'm writing a story about Jackson Heights and would love some suggestions on: the best restaurants; the best shops; cool stuff to do; the best residential areas/buildings to rent/buy. My deadline quickly approaches and I only have room for three or four of each...so whatever concise advice you have to offer is much appreciated.
Thanks!

Please keep responses focused only on chow recommendations, as the rest of the info requested is off topic for this site.

And we do expect that if any significant info is received, Chowhound will receive proper credit as a source.

Oh noooo - with the Times article last month and your article coming up, I've got to find an apartment to buy quick - the secret is out!!!

My food faves:
Grand Sweets - good Bengali cooking hidden down a back alley off of 73rd street.
La Nueva - fabulous pastries and Latino cafe society on 37th Avenue
Jackson House diner - some may disagree with me on the food end, but the best diner waitresses ever!

Good Luck!
